What exactly is stress?
"Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any event or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. Stress is your body's reaction to a challenge or demand. In short bursts, stress can be positive, such as when it helps you avoid danger or meet a deadline." According to https://medlineplus.gov/.
Common symptoms of stress include: Aches and pains, Chest pain or a feeling like your heart is racing, Exhaustion or trouble sleeping. Stress is a silent killer and it shouldn't be something young adults should be under heavily. College is a form getting a higher education after graduation from Highschool. The typical plan that's fed into the young minds is, " graduate Highschool, go to college, and have a good job".
This ideal of college making your life better is almost a fantasy. People leave college more stressed, and broke than what you came in as. Constantly stressing if this is gonna be paid, if im gonna pass this class, how am i gonna get to work. All common problems college students struggle with some college students even go as far as getting addicted to substances just to cope and get through college. So is college doing more bad than good? Lets not talk about all the people with some of the probably hardest degrees to get working 9-5's or fast food because they couldn't get a job after school, and is swamped with student loans or debt.
On the flip side college does provide some advantages, from making life long friends to new experiences. Personally college has exposed to me things I've never thought I'd ever experience.
In the end its all about how you let the stress from college change you. Do you take it and turn it into an advantage, motivation? or do you let it overtake you? even if it does over take you remember you have people willing to help you and be there for you. You got this.
